Rock Trading / C’est la faute aux enfants — Video Creation for Theatre

We collaborated with Swiss playwright and director Marielle Pinsard on Rock Trading / C’est la faute aux enfants, a theatrical production premiered in February 2018 at Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne.

Inspired by the world of financial trading and the growing influence of algorithms, the performance explores the relationship between humans and machines in an increasingly automated society. Drawing on research into financial markets, trading rituals, and the language of finance, the production transforms an abstract economic system into a theatrical universe of characters, gestures, beliefs, and absurd situations.

Rather than approaching finance through documentary theatre, Marielle Pinsard creates a metaphorical and playful world in which traders become almost tribal figures, algorithms acquire a life of their own, and the mechanisms of financial speculation influence the rhythm and structure of the performance.

At the heart of the project lies a fundamental question: what remains uniquely human in a world increasingly governed by machines? Through humor, physical performance, and theatrical experimentation, the production celebrates human imperfection, emotion, and the capacity for empathy.

Our collaboration focused on the video creation, developed by Camille de Dieu as part of the production's multidisciplinary stage design, bringing moving images into dialogue with theatrical performance, scenography, sound, and light.

Created at Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne in 2018, the production subsequently toured to Théâtre du Loup in Geneva and Le Tarmac in Paris.
